TESOL International Association, one of the consortium members of the English Speaking Nation: Secondary Teacher Training (ESN:STT) program, hosted the first regional Teaching English as a Second or Other Language (TESOL) Conference at Inha University in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from June 13-16th.

Supported by the U.S. Embassy in Uzbekistan and implemented by American Councils for International Education, the ESN:STT program is professionally re-training and certifying over 15,000 English language teachers within the Ministry of Public Education in all 14 regions of Uzbekistan. The Regional TESOL Conference serves as the culmination of the ESN:STT program and has brought together 524 educators from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan as well as over 20 other countries around the world.

The four-day TESOL Conference served as a learning and networking event for TESOL members across the world to discuss modern teaching methods and pedagogical classroom approaches to teaching English as a foreign language. Joining TESOL International staff are Fulbright English Language Fellows, ESN Coaches, George Mason University representatives, and several prominent English language teaching experts from the United States.

International guests, as well as several English language teachers in Uzbekistan, provided in-depth presentations and moderated seminars about teaching processes and classroom experiences during theongoing ESN teacher training program. Starting in July 2022, the ESN:STT program will begin its third and final teacher-to-teacher training cascade to smaller towns throughout Uzbekistan. By summer 2023, the English Speaking Nation program intends to train and observe over 15,000 English teachers in Uzbekistan.
